Canoe Black Canyon
June 5-7
Launch at Hover Dam
two nights of camping by the river. Hot springs and beer.

This is primitive camping.

Includes, canoe, life jacket, paddle, permit, and drop off and pick up.

Cost is about $200

The outfitter launches us and picks us up.

We meet Friday morning at Hover Dam Lodge parking lot. They drop us off Friday morning about 8am and pick us up Sunday around 3pm or 4pm. The trip is about 13 miles.

How many people are going.

Try to get a group of at least 10, but I have done groups of 30 and groups of 4 .

Go up Thursday night

I’m driving up after work and staying at the Hover Dam Lodge.

What do I need to bring!

Canoes can carry a lot of stuff. Every year I take less stuff.
A lot of people cowboy camp in the open with no tent.
I prefer a tent.
Sleeping pad or air mattress.
Sleeping bag.
Food for Friday Lunch and dinner. All day Saturday. Sunday breakfast and Lunch.

A camp chair.
Head lamp is always nice.
Ice chest.
I use a 27 gallon container. It fits perfectly in a canoe. https://www.lowes.com/pd/COMMANDER-27-Gallon-108-Quart-Black-Yellow-Tote-with-Standard-Snap-Lid/3551290

It seems too hot!

Sometimes it is crazy hot, so we sit in the river and drink beer. Bring an inner tube and hangout in the river.

Bathroom

It’s primitive camping, but the first camp has a out house. The second camp does not. I bring a small portable toilet. You just need to bring “wagg bags” you can get them amazon or REI. You must pack out your poop! Peeing in the river is okay.

What do you do out there?

Mostly taking time to unplug and relax. There some hiking and plenty of views to enjoy. Lots of beer drinking.
